Review

This intriguing set features Motian leading a group consisting of the young, great Joshua Redman on tenor, both Brad Schoeppach and Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitars, and bassist Stomu Takeishi. The ten songs on the CD (which include two straight versions of "Scrapple From the Apple") are all bebop standards, but these versions are often a bit outside, a touch rock-ish, and quite unpredictable. The guitarists keep the music from ever getting too comfortable and it is quite interesting hearing Redman in this setting. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
