The onetime guitarist of the punk-influenced Christian band One Bad Pig, Paul Q-Pek pursued a decidedly different direction upon beginning his solo career, crafting prog-tinged pop songs heavy on the synths; touchstones (acquiring a more spiritual bent in Q-Pek's hands, of course) include Peter Gabriel, earlier Phil Collins, mid-'80s Genesis, or even Howard Jones, whose "Things Can Only Get Better" Q-Pek covered on his 1996 debut, Touch the Ground. A native of California, Q-Pek toured with the Continental Singers before co-founding the Christian punk outfit One Bad Pig in the mid-'80s. He departed in 1992 to pursue subtler forms of musical expression, signing with Absolute Records, whose first-ever release was Q-Pek's debut. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
