Dictionary of Dance: Paul Sanasardo
 

Sanasardo, Paul (b Chicago, 15 Sept. 1928). US dancer, teacher, and choreographer. He studied with Tudor, Graham, and others, making his debut with the Erika Thimey Dance Theater in 1952. He performed with Sokolow in 1955, creating a role in Rooms, and with P. Lang in 1957 and 1964. He also appeared on Broadway and with New York City Opera. In 1957 he founded the Paul Sanasardo-Donya Feuer Dance Company and a year later his own school, the Studio for Dance (later named Modern Dance Artists Inc.). He choreographed many works, including Cyclometry (1971). He was also artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company (1977-81). After disbanding his company in 1986 he continued to teach and choreograph, including The Seven Last Words (mus. Kancheli, 1994). His works have remained in the repertory of several companies, including Ailey's.
