PBS World is a 24-hour digital channel showing PBS documentaries, primarily science, current affairs, and history programs.[citation needed] It launched in 2006 as a joint venture between PBS, Boston's WGBH, and New York City's WNET.[citation needed]
On 15 August 2007, the channel launched nationwide, at which time it reached 26% of American homes.[citation needed]
With the mandatory conversion to digital television, the channel is expected to eventually reach all American homes within range of a PBS affiliate station.[clarification needed][citation needed]
