Peach was formed in February 2011 as A&F Aviation, a joint venture between All Nippon Airways and First Eastern Investment Group. The company applied for an operating certificate in April 2011 and changed its name to Peach Aviation in May 2011.[3] Its shares are held in almost equal portions by ANA, FEIG and the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), with ANA holding a slightly larger share than the other two.[4]
To ensure the LCC model was followed in the set-up of Peach, ANA hired Mango Aviation Partners,[5] the LCC start-up experts on a 2 year contract to provide a team of people for key management positions
Peach's aircraft livery was designed by Neil Denari, and its crew uniforms by James Wilkie.[3] The airline is based at Kansai International Airport.[6]
In July 2011, Peach received 1,909 applications for its first class of ninety flight attendants.[7]
Its head office was at one time located on the third floor of Aeroplaza (エアロプラザ Earopuraza),[8] located on the property of Kansai International Airport in Tajiri, Sennan District, Osaka Prefecture.[9][10] On August 1, 2011, Peach announced that it was moving its operations office from Aeroplaza to Kensetsu-to.
The airline began scheduled flights on 1 March 2012. The airline's first flight was between Kansai and New Chitose Airport near Sapporo.[11][12]
Peach has applied to offer service to the following destinations:[13]
CEO Shinichi Inoue commented in May 2011 that the airline is targeting 10 routes within its first five years, and is specifically planning to serve popular point-to-point markets within three to four hours of Kansai Airport, including major cities in China, Taiwan and South Korea and the resort markets of Guam and Saipan. Inoue also mentioned the possibility of Peach using less congested secondary airports to serve certain cities, such as using Saga Airport or Kitakyushu Airport to serve Fukuoka.[16] The airline announced that it plans to commence routes from Osaka-Kansai to Okianwa/Naha, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Seoul after the second quarter of 2012.[17]
Peach plans to operate ten Airbus A320 aircraft in a 180-seat configuration. The aircraft are to be leased from GE Capital Aviation Services.[18] Peach's first Airbus A320 was delivered to its home base at Kansai International Airport in November 2011.[19]
