The Peche or Pech river is located in Afghanistan. The Peche river system is fed from glaciers and snow. It includes the Kunar River, which rises in Nuristan province of Afghanistan, and the main Kunar River, which rises in the eastern Pamir Mountains before flowing through Chitral in Pakistan into the upper Kunar Valley in Afghanistan.
In the Pech valley, Pashto as well as Askunu language is spoken. The Safi tribe of Pashtuns originate in the Pech Valley.
Firebase Phoenix, a small American firebase, very close to the Pakistani border, north of the Khyber Pass, east of Tora Bora has for purposes to guard and help facilitate those rebuilding the Pesh River Road.
