the scapula (shoulder blade) and the clavicle (collarbone) make
up the pectoral girdle. Each upper limb articulates with the trunk
at the pectoral girdle, or shoulder girdle The pectoral girdle
consists of two broar, flat scapulae and the two slender, curved
clavicles. Each clavicle articulates with the manubrium of the
sternum; these are the only direct connections between the pectoral
girdle and the axial skeleton. Skeletal muscles support and
position each scapula, which has no bony or ligamentous connections
to the thoracic cage.
