Early career

Damián began his career in 1971, appearing in the Mexican telenovela El amor tiene cara de mujer. Through that decade he appeared in many Mexican films and telenovelas and also had roles in two Hollywood films, The Return of a Man Called Horse (1976) and Eagle's Wing (1979).

Director, producer, and musical producer

In 1982, Damián was a founder and the musical director of the Mexican youth music group Timbiriche. His first directing credit was for the Mexican telenovela La Pobre Señorita Limantour in 1983; it was followed by at least one additional telenovela in every year of the decade except 1988. Damián continued to appear as an actor in Mexican films and television, but less frequently.

Damián's first credit as a producer was Ángeles sin paraiso in 1992. He produced seven more telenovelas for Televisa during the 1990s, including El abuelo y yo. He continued to direct during the 1990s; his lone acting credit during that decade is a role in El vuelo del águila.

Recent career

In 2002 Damián was the executive producer of a hit telenovela for teens, Clase 406. It was much longer than a typical telenovela, running in four chapters (called seasons, but lasting less than a year each) and 365 episodes in total. In 2004 this was followed by an even bigger hit, Rebelde, which ran for three seasons and 440 total episodes. The band formed by the cast members in the series, RBD, toured successfully for four years (they have announced that they will disband in 2009); Damián is the band's producer and representative. Damián is also the executive producer of the spinoff series RBD: La Familia and of three specials about RBD.

2001 marked Damián's return to acting after a long absence, with an uncredited cameo in an American movie for Showtime television, Warden of Red Rock. Small roles in two more American films, Collateral Damage and Showtime, followed in 2002. He returned to the big screen in Mexico in Amar te duele in 2002. Damián played a recurring character in the Mexican television series Sexo y otros secretos in 2007, and will appear in two upcoming films, Amar and Deseo.
