When Peggy Manners (Mary Miles Minter) comes back from finishing school, she discovers that her father (Andrew Arbuckle) isn't the astute businessman she thought he was. As a matter of fact, his grocery store can't even earn a profit. So Peggy steps in and turns it around. Roland Gardiner, a wealthy, but nasty, landowner lives near their little village, and his son (Allan Forrest) falls in love with Peggy. Gardiner disapproves of the union, and he is entertaining a mother and daughter (Margaret Shelby, Minter's real-life sister), who hope to nab the young man. But a big storm leaves the Gardiners without food or supplies, and Gardiner is forced to come to the Manners' grocery store for a few items. Peggy, knowing she has him in a hole, sells him a ham, some cheese, and crackers at outrageously inflated prices -- $1,086, to be exact. Gardiner likes her spunk and finally approves of her romance with his son. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
