The song was very successful in the Indian musical chart. It was on the top of the charts for more than 3 consecutive weeks. Pritam said the complete credit for the song being such a huge hit went to the singer Atif Aslam himself while Atif Aslam said the song completely belongs to Pritam and he should get the credit for its huge popularity.
The lyrics written by Sameer were very popular. The song, although released in 2008, is still very popular till date. Atif Aslam is recognized for this song and his other hits like "Tere Liye", "Tu Jaane Na", "Tere Bin" and "Tera Hone Laga Hoon".
The song was first offered to singer KK. But after he turned it down, Pritam offered it to Shafqat Amanat Ali, a successful Pakistani singer. But later, it was offered to Atif Aslam.[2] A demo version of the song sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali is available for digital downloads over the internet. According to a Network 18 report, Pritam actually copied "Pehli Nazar Mein" from a Korean song called "Sa Rang Haeo" featured in the television serial Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang.[1]
The song was picturised by Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna who ironically aren't even really in love in the film.
The music of the song was later found to be copied from a Korean song called "Sarang Hae Yo" but Pritam to date refuses to acknowledge it.
