Peneios (Strauss: Daphne). Bass. A fisherman, husband of Gaea and father of Daphne. Ens. (with Gaea and the Shepherds): Seid ihr um mich (‘Are you with me?’). Although Peneios does not have a big solo number, singing mainly in ensembles, the role has nevertheless attracted some notable artists, including Paul Schöffler and Kurt Moll. Created (1938) by Sven Nilsson.
