Penrose is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fremont County, Colorado, United States. The population was 4,070 at the 2000 census.[3] The Penrose Post Office has the ZIP Code 81240.[2]

In the early 1900's Spencer Penrose organized the "Beaver Land and Irrigation Company" and began buying water rights in the Beaver creek area.
Penrose is located at 38°25′36″N 105°0′27″W / 38.42667°N 105.0075°W (38.426756, -105.007568)[4].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 33.4 square miles (87 km2), of which, 33.3 square miles (86 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (0.45%) is water.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 4,070 people, 1,475 households, and 1,159 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 122.3 people per square mile (47.2/km²). There were 1,562 housing units at an average density of 46.9 per square mile (18.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.28% White, 0.22% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 1.72% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.64% of the population.
There were 1,475 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-families. 17.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $35,638, and the median income for a family was $40,383. Males had a median income of $35,981 versus $20,870 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $15,481. About 9.3% of families and 12.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.6% of those under age 18 and 2.4% of those age 65 or over.
Transport: Penrose is located just north of the intersection of US 50 and CO 115; 115 runs north, 33.92 miles (54.59 km), to become Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. Penrose lies between Pueblo, 30.34 miles (48.83 km) to the southeast, and Cañon City, 12.21 miles (19.65 km) to the west, on US 50. Rail service existed briefly before World War I. The Fremont County airport (1V6)[5], usually called the Cañon City airport, actually has a Penrose address.
Economics: Many residents commute to work in Colorado Springs, or the prisons of Florence or Cañon City, or to the cement works southeast of town. Penrose has no traffic lights, a volunteer-run fire station, a trucking company, 2 gas stations (one on US 50 and one on CO 115), an elementary school (graduates attend high school in Florence CO), one doctor, a post office, a small grocery store, the Estes Industries model rocket factory, a one small restaurant, 4 medical marijuana dispensaries, and several other businesses.
