Plot

Part of the PBS series People's Century, this documentary looks at the year 1900 and continues on to the years of World War I. The century began with joy and new beginnings for most people around the world, starting with the Paris Exposition of 1900. Following this, happiness turned to sadness with President McKinley's assassination, the sinking of the great ocean liner Titanic, and then the Great War in 1914. Other events that took place during this time included the women's suffrage movement, the failed campaigns of the Russian Revolution in 1905, and the first meeting of the African National Congress in South Africa. Narrated by John Forsythe, this documentary features interviews with Americans, Europeans, and Asians who lived through this era and offer firsthand stories about this crucial time in history and how those events affected their lives. ~ Cecilia Cygnar, Rovi
