A procedure to measure the drainage characteristics of the soil on a lot. Required in the proper design of septic tank drainfields.
Example: Carter is developing a Subdivision in the county. As part of site preparation, Carter runs percolation tests on the soil. From this information, the engineer can determine the proper size of the lots and placement of septic tanks.
A test to determine the rate at which a particular soil absorbs effluent; a hole is dug in the soil and filled with water, then the rate at which the water level drops is measured.
