Peregrina

Peregrina, a poetic designation applied by E. Mörike to Maria Meyer. Mörike used the name as a collective title for the five poems connected with her: (1)Der Spiegel dieser treuen, braunen Augen’; (2) ‘Aufgeschmückt ist der Freudensaal’; (3) ‘Ein Irrsal kam in die Mondscheingärten’; (4) ‘Warum, Geliebte, denk’ ich dein'; (5)Die Liebe, sagt man, steht am Pfahl gebunden’. (1) and (5) especially are profoundly moving expressions of the emotional disturbance induced by his love for her.
