Peruvian Union University (Spanish: Universidad Peruana Unión) is a Seventh-day Adventist university in Lima, Peru. being one of ten Adventist universities in of South America. It is commonly abbreviated as "UPeU". Founded in 1919 as Instituto Industrial in ubicado en el distrito de Miraflores. Miraflores, Lima, it was the first higher education facility started by Seventh-day Adventists in Peru.

History

Este proyecto se inició en el Perú en 1919, al crearse un Instituto Industrial, ubicado en el distrito de Miraflores. Empezó así una experiencia educativa sin precedentes que significó un nuevo modelo en la formación de niños y jóvenes, en un marco auténtico de valores cristianos. Luego de un fructífero trabajo, el instituto se trasladó a la localidad de Ñaña, cambiando su nombre a Colegio Unión. Tras seis décadas de desarrollo y de seriedad académica, que le valió muchos reconocimientos, el 30 de diciembre de 1983 se convierte en Universidad Unión Incaica. Y a partir del 3 de noviembre de 1995, por ley Nº 26542, cambió su denominación a UNIVERSIDAD PERUANA UNIÓN. La Asamblea Nacional de Rectores, tras evaluar periódicamente el trabajo académico de la universidad y su infraestructura, autorizó el funcionamiento de la Escuela de Posgrado. De esta manera el proyecto educativo adventista logró ampliar su cobertura, desde la educación inicial hasta el máximo nivel de educación universitaria: el doctorado. Desde el año 2002, funciona oficialmente en la filial de Juliaca que ofrece en la actualidad nueve carreras universitarias; la misma que el 24 de julio del 2006 ha recibido la ratificación de su funcionamiento por parte del CONAFU.

El año 2005 se obtuvo, también, la autorización oficial para el funcionamiento en la filial de Tarapoto que en la actualidad ofrece tres carreras profesionales. Un logro importante en el desarrollo institucional es la confianza de la Asamblea Nacional de Rectores para que la UPeU revalide grados académicos, títulos profesionales y títulos de segunda especialidad obtenidos en el extranjero.

Campus

Peruvian Union University is located a la Altura Km. 19.5 Carretera Central, Ñaña Lima - Perú

The 11-acre (4.5 ha) campus was originally designated as an arboretum. The campus maintains a variety of indigenous trees, especially around the quad in the center of the campus. The campus is composed of 27 instructional buildings, the Howard Performing Arts Center, an airpark, four single-sex residence halls and four apartment complexes.

The four dormitories on campus are Lamson Hall, the undergraduate women's hall, Damazo Hall, the graduate women's hall,Meier Hall, the undergraduate men's hall, and Burman Hall, primarily for men who are either graduate or seminary students. The residence halls strictly enforce a curfew depending on a student's age, as well as a visitation policy which does not allow students of the opposite sex in dorm rooms at any time. Students living on-campus are also required to attend a number of worship services.

The university is made up of five schools/colleges, offering 8 undergraduate majors and 3 graduate majors.

Study abroad opportunities

Andrews University co-sponsors Adventist Colleges Abroad, a program in which qualified students study overseas while completing requirements for graduation at Andrews. This language and cultural immersion is available in nine locations: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, France, Greece, Italy, Singapore, Spain, and Taiwan. Undergraduate students may also study abroad in the Andrews University Year in England at Newbold College. Affiliation and Extension Programs are offered in Chile, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Nigeria, England, Italy, Romania, Russia, Lebanon, Hong Kong, and South Korea.-
