Veterinary Dictionary: peste des petits ruminants

[Fr.] a highly infectious and fatal disease of sheep and goats caused by a paramyxovirus in the genus Morbillivirus which is very closely related to the rinderpest virus. Typical signs are purulent nasal discharge, erosive stomatitis, diarrhea and bronchopneumonia. The spread is rapid and the mortality rate high. See also rinderpest. Called also contagious pustular stomatitis.
