There's more to Panama than just a canal -- there's also gold. Petaquilla Minerals mines the precious metal in the Petaquilla district of Panama. The company's primary operation is the Molejon gold deposit, which is scheduled to begin production by 2010. Estimated reserves at the Molejon property include about one million ounces of gold. In 2006, the company spun off its copper assets as Petaquilla Copper while still maintaining its status as the largest shareholder in that company. Two years later, Inmet Mining bought Petaquilla Copper for $320 million.
