Peter Hille

Hille, Peter (Erwitzen nr. Höxter, 1854-1904, Großlichterfelde, Berlin), a gifted and arch-bohemian writer (in the French sense), who lost or mislaid many of his own writings. He published three novels, Die Sozialisten (1886), Semiramis (1902), and Cleopatra (1905), and a tragedy on Petrarch (Des Platonikers Sohn, 1896). His poems were published posthumously as Blätter vom 5o jährigen Baum (1905) and Aus dem Heiligtum der Schönheit (1909). Years later appeared Das My-sterium Jesu (1921). Gesammelte Werke (6 vols.), ed. F. Kienacke, appeared 1984 ff.
