Biography
Peter Keane made a name for himself on the competitive Boston folk and blues coffeehouse scene in the 1980s and began his recording career in 1992. Keane's releases include 1992's The Goodnight Blues and Walkin' Around, a 1996 Flying Fish Records release produced by his contemporary, Boston-based singer/songwriter and bluesman Bill Morrissey. His last two albums, Another Kind of Blue in 2000 and Milton Street in 2002, were released by the Portsmouth, N.H.-based Broken White Records. No slouch as a singer/songwriter, Keane penned original songs in the folk-blues vein and broke new musical ground on both albums. He's accompanied by Charlie Larkey on bass and Richard White on drums on both Milton Street and Another Kind of Blue, the latter of which also features pedal steel player and guitarist David Hamburger. Keane tackles folk-blues chestnuts on both albums, including tunes like "Candyman," "I Wish I Was in Heaven Sitting Down," "Roll 'Em Pete," "Sunday Street," "Glory Land," and "Fool's Paradise." Keane was a featured performer at the 2000 Newport Folk Festival. As of 2009, he had relocated to Austin, TX, where he was working as a librarian at the University of Texas at Austin. His performing and touring career may be on the back burner, save for local gigs in and around Austin. ~ Richard Skelly, All Music Guide
