Biography

Peter Stone Brown is one of the many singer/songwriters whose life courses were irrevocably changed by Bob Dylan. Brown was an avid fan of folk and rock music as a child and he was already writing poetry at the age of nine. But Dylan's arrival in the music world had an enormous impact on the young artist. His poems were soon set to music, and over the years, he developed a poetic lyrical style, a genre-bending folk, country, rock, and blues sound and a harsh vocal delivery that might not have been possible were it not for Freewheelin' Bob. Brown also found work as a journalist and a music writer and has written extensively about Dylan and many of his other musical influences, including James Brown, Muddy Waters, Bob Marley, Peter Case, John Prine, and Ry Cooder. He has played both as a solo artist and with numerous bands including the Dusters, the Others, the Crackers, the Fulminators, and the Fumblers. His first major solo release, Up Against It, was recorded in Austin, TX, and released by Tangible Music in October, 1996. ~ Evan Cater, All Music Guide
