One of the two rivers of Damascus, mentioned by Naaman (II Kgs 5:12). Some identify it with Nahr el-Awaj, which takes its source from Mount Hermon, 8 miles (13 km) to the east of the city. Some suggest that it is Nahr Taura, the largest tributary of Nahr el-Barad; while others prefer the identification with Nahar Barbar, which flows to the south of Damascus, between the city and Nahr el-awaj.
