Philētās (or, perhaps more correctly, Philītas)of Cos (born not later than 320 BC), Greek poet and grammarian of the Hellenistic age, tutor of the (subsequent) king of Egypt Ptolemy II Philadelphus. His other distinguished pupils were said to include the scholar Zenodotus and the poet Theocritus. He was a writer of amatory poems, and particularly famed for his elegies, mentioned by Ovid and Propertius as their model. Only fragments of his work survive.
