Philip James Villapiano (born February 26, 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey) is a former American football linebacker in the NFL. The 6-2 220-pound Villapiano played in four Pro Bowls and was a member of the Oakland Raiders Super Bowl XI winning team. Phil was Defensive AFC Rookie of the Year in 1971 and was an NFL Hall of Fame nominee.
Villapiano played college football at Bowling Green State University, and high school football at both Asbury Park High School and Ocean Township High School.[1] [2]
Phil is married and has three children; Andrea, Phil, and Michael. Michael is a QB who led his teams to a 2011 New England Prep School Championship, while at Cheshire Academy, Cheshire, CT, and a 2010 New Jersey State Championship (CJII), while at Rumson-Fair Haven High School. He will play football for Brown University beginning Fall 2012.
Phil has been in the International Logistics business for over thirty years, starting during offseasons while playing with the Raiders. Currently, Phil provides logistics solutions for domestic and international companies as Vice President of Sales for Odyssey Logistics & Technology, a global logistics leader, based in Danbury, CT.
A National Vice President with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Phil founded the annual Phil Villapiano Field of Hope Gala sixteen years ago to raise money for research being done at ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) to find a cure for ALS.
