Philip K. Dick: The Penultimate Truth

  • Director: Emilio Larre
  • Release Year: 2007
  • Run Time: 89 minutes

Plot

Frequently sighted as one of the most talented science fiction authors ever, Phillip K. Dick managed to tap his mental illness and extract the creativity needed to pen such riveting, paranoid, and hallucinogenic tales as Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (the source material that inspired Blade Runner) and A Scanner Darkly. In addition to producing a staggering number of books and short stories, which have since been translated into over twenty-five languages, Dick often found his writing becoming fodder such for big-budget, Hollywood filmmakers as Paul Verhoeven and Steven Spielberg, who adapted his labyrinthine works into such successful films as Total Recall and Minority Report, respectively. In this documentary writer Patricio Vega teams with director Emiliano Larre to explore the complex psyche of the author whose mystical experiences later in life left him uncertain whether his story ideas were the result of fantasy impeding on reality, or vice versa. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
