Philipp Langmann

Langmann, Philipp (Brünn, now Brno, 1862-1931, Vienna), originally a workman, became a manager but abandoned industry for writing and journalism, at first in his native town and from 1900 in Vienna. In a style of closely detailed realism he wrote stories which were published in the collections Arbeiterleben (1893), Realistische Erzählungen (1895), Ein junger Mann (1895), Verflogene Rufe (1899), Erlebnisse eines Wanderers (1911). He is the author of Naturalistic plays, including Bartel Turaser (1897), his best-known drama which deals with a strike, the comedy Die vier Gewinner (1898), and the dramas Unser Tebaldo (1898), Gertrud Antleß, Korporal Stöhr (both 1900), Die Herzmarke (1901), and Gerwins Liebestod (1903). A novel entitled Leben und Musik appeared in 1904.
