Philippe Thoby-Marcelin

French Literature Companion: Philippe Thoby-Marcelin

Thoby-Marcelin, Philippe (1904-75). Haitian poet and novelist, and one of the founders of La Revue indigène (1927-8), in which he published delicate mood poems inspired by peasant life. The same material is later apparent in his sometimes humorous fiction Canapévert (1942), La Bête de Musseau (1946), Le Crayon de dieu (1952), and Tous les hommes sont fous (1970).
