A stethoscopic device that intensifies auscultatory sounds. Consists of a flat chamber closed at its contact with the skin by a thin plastic diaphragm. It is most useful in picking up low pitched sounds from the respiratory tract. The classical bell stethoscope is more suited to picking up the higher pitched heart sounds.
