Their subscription model sees the movies that have been on PictureBox for the longest time taken off the service and replaced with a selection of different on-demand movies. Users do not pay per movie; for a monthly subscription they have free access to movies in the database.
The PictureBox self-styles its ethos as being "all about value and convenience".[citation needed]
PictureBox have company mascots in the form of a box-shaped man and his dog, which often appear on the PictureBox website and on the supporting marketing materials.
PictureBox Player is an online movie-streaming service that was launched on 8 March 2011 in the UK and Ireland.[1] It follows the same subscription model, but allows movies to be streamed to a computer, mobile device or television. The PictureBox Player is also available as a free app for Apple's iOS devices and on Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray players. Further global expansion of the PictureBox Player is planned, as well as the addition of more connected devices.[1]
In Poland, the service is available through a couple of TV providers, specifically n and Multimedia. On both services the subscribers have a selection of 16 on-demand movies at any one time, with four titles being swapped out each Sunday.
In Singapore, the service is available through Mio TV. Subscribers have a selection of 28 on-demand movies at any one time, with seven titles being swapped out each Friday.
In the United Kingdom, the service is available through a number of TV providers, specifically BT Vision, Freesat, Top Up TV and Virgin Media, and formerly through TalkTalk TV. It is also available through the PictureBox Player.
On BT Vision, Freesat (through BoxOffice365) and Virgin Media subscribers have a selection of 28 on-demand movies at any one time, with seven titles being swapped out each Friday. This is also true of the PictureBox Player. On Top Up TV, the operation is slightly different; they have 7 movies available at any one time, with a different title being swapped out every single day.
On Virgin Media the majority of the PictureBox movies are broadcast in high definition.[2]
