Piedmont Virginia Community College is an open access community college offering two-year associate's degrees, one-year certificates, continuing education and workforce training. The campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia, south of Charlottesville. As part of the statewide Virginia Community College System, PVCC serves the residents of five counties surrounding Charlottesville and Albemarle, and an enrollment of 2,668 full-time equivalent students as of 2009[update]. PVCC was chartered in 1972.
PVCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.

PVCC consists of a total of 4,874 undergraduates, 76% of which are part time students. Women constitute 60% of the student body and men 40%.[1]
PVCC offers an Associate of Arts Degree: Specialization in Dance [2]. The first recipient of this degree was in 2009 and the student continued studying dance at James Madison University. The ciriculum consists of beginning and advance courses in modern , balletCoordinates: 38°0′25.3″N 78°28′59.4″W / 38.007028°N 78.483167°W, jazz, dance composition, and history of modern dance[3]. Dance students may also enroll in supervised study, which is directly related to the program's dance concert. Each semester, dance faculty and students collaborate and put on a dance concert showcasing various original works. These concerts are held in the V. Earl Dickinson Building on the Main Stage Theatre or in the Black Box theatre. The PVCC dance club meets on the first and third Friday of each month and meetings consist of guest instructors teaching various styles of dance.[4]
