Pierre Fontanier

Fontanier, Pierre (1768-1844). Obscure French author of two works, Manuel classique pour l'étude des tropes (1821) and Les Figures autres que tropes (1827), both republished by Genette as Les Figures du discours in 1968 during the Structuralist revival of rhetoric. Following Du Marsais, they give a full account of the traditional classifications.
