PINKNOISE (all caps) is an Indian experimental music band formed in March 2006. The newborn quartet had scored its first gig even before they thought up a name. The members eventually decided on PINKNOISE, named after the now defunct jingle composing company Jayashree Singh had started with Amyt Datta.[1] The music PINKNOISE plays is difficult to categorize. The musicians have many diverse influences from Miles Davis and Weather Report to Meshell Ndegeocello and the Screaming Headless Torsos to hip-hop and electronica stylings. Amyt Datta is also well versed in the classical Indian music tradition. The influences come together with an emphasis on texture rather than genre.[2]

The members of PINKNOISE are:

  • Jayashree Singh Talk
  • Amyt Datta Guitars
  • Gyan Singh Bass
  • Jivraj Singh Beat

PINKNOISE is active in the Indian live performance circuit. Notable performances include: the Eastwind Festival (New Delhi), the 10th At Home (New Delhi), the Blue Frog Club (Mumbai), and opening for Vital Information at the At Home Festival (New Delhi).

Jayashree Singh, Amyt Datta and Gyan Singh also perform with the acclaimed Indian rock band Skinny Alley. Jayashree Singh says that PINKNOISE is the more challenging outlet of expression for the three musicians from a band which has already had much success in the independent Indian music scene.[2]
