A genus of coniferous trees in the family Pinaceae.

  • P. cubensis, P. ponderosa, P. radiata — the leaves of the trees P. ponderosa (western yellow pine), P. radiata and P. cubensis contain isocupressic acid and are abortifacient when fed to cows. See pine needle abortion.
  • P. taeda — the leaves are reported to cause fatal indigestion in cows. Called also loblolly pine.
