Music Encyclopedia: Pitch names

Names given to the seven pitches A-G. In English usage only letter names are given; French, Italian and Spanish use names derived from the Guidonian hexachord. In German, suffixes added to let-ters denote modification, but English, French, Italian and Spanish add words for sharp, flat etc to the basic name. See Table 1.
