The Pitons are two volcanic plugs in a World Heritage Site in Saint Lucia. The Gros Piton is 771 m, and the Petit Piton is 743 m high; they are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge.

Geography

The Pitons are located near the towns of Soufrière and Choiseul on the southwestern coast of the island. They are in the electoral districts of three and ten.

Situated at the top the Piton Mitan ridge is the Ladera Hotel, offering a view over Jalousie bay and Jalousie Estate. The Jalousie Estate spans 320 acres and is home to The Jalousie Enclave, and the Jalousie Plantation resort, both built by Pascal Mahvi starting in 1990.

Saint Lucia's local brand of beer is named after these two mountains.

Geology

The Pitons are volcanic plugs. There are still sulfur springs and hot mud pools in the nearby Soufrière caldera, visible remnants of former volcanic activity in the area.
