A penicillin-type antibiotic used mainly for the treatment of urinary tract infections. It is available as tablets on prescription only.

Side effects:
include nausea, vomiting, and indigestion. See also benzylpenicillin.

Precautions:
pivmecillinam should not be taken by people with narrowing of the oesophagus or obstruction of the intestines. See also benzylpenicillin.
