Plain of Asphodel
Asphodel, Plain of, in Homer's Odyssey, the place in the Underworld (see HADES) where all the dead dwell, leading a shadowy continuance of their former life in the world. The asphodel (whence ‘daffodil’) is a flowering plant of the lily family; in Hesiod it is given as an example of the cheapest and plainest food.
