The Planet Internet Services (briefly known as The Planet-EV1Servers) is the byproduct of two rivals "kissing and making up." The merged enterprise-level hosting services firm -- a result of the 2006 merger of Dallas-based hosting firm The Planet and Houston-based Everyone's Internet (EV1) -- provides colocation, dedicated services, email, and Internet access. It also offers data storage, as well as database administration, monitoring and security services, and virtual private networks (VPNs). Customers can manage their services through the company's customer portal -- dubbed Orbit. Prior to the merger, California-based private equity firm GI Partners took control of both EV1 and The Planet.
