Plop: The Hairless Elbonian

Wikipedia: Plop: The Hairless Elbonian

Plop: The Hairless Elbonian is an experimental spinoff of the Dilbert comic strip, both by Scott Adams. It follows the life of the titular Elbonian, who, having absolutely no hair, is unusual in his country (Elbonian males, females, and children typically have large amounts of head and facial hair) and his pet pig. In order to explain this away, Plop hypothesizes that he is an alien from an advanced race with a high level of intelligence. Twenty-eight comics were published in 2001, but none have been seen since, mainly because they were produced in the summer of 2001 - Adams was doubtful about making a comic about "people who look like the Taliban" in the wake of 9/11, so the project was shelved, "probably permanently", according to Adams.[1]

Plop was so named because, according to Adams, that was "the first thing my mom heard when I was born three months prematurely." From strip #21 Plop starts to rename himself to "Squat", after his name certificate misspells "Scott". The background reasons for this name-change are explained in Dilbert newsletter No. 39 [2]

Plop's father works at the Unidentified Meat Center, whose purpose is to find out what type of meat certain items are. However, this job is rarely done properly; for example, they once misidentified a piece of tire tread as llama.

Most comics illustrate the idiocy of the Elbonians, either because of or leading to its fourth-world status.
