PMA Companies (formerly PMA Capital) has been insuring Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic states since 1915. Through companies operating under the PMA Companies and PMA Insurance Group trade names, PMA underwrites workers' compensation and commercial insurance (including commercial automobile and multi-peril). Customers include businesses ranging from industrial manufacturers to nursing homes. The company targets middle-market and large accounts; most of its policies are sold through independent brokers and agents. Licensed to do business throughout the country and in Puerto Rico, PMA Companies operates primarily in the eastern US. The company was acquired by insurance group Old Republic International in 2010.
