PML

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email

abbr. for promyelocytic leukemia protein; a protein that occurs free in nucleoplasm and in association with other proteins in nuclear bodies. The gene at 15q21 encodes a protein that contains a RING finger and a coiled-coil domain, and resembles COP1 in structure, cell distribution, and dynamics. A translocation between the PML gene and the RARα gene produces the fusion protein PML-RARα and disrupts the nuclear bodies. Cytoplasmic aggregates of PML occur in virally infected, neoplastic, or inflamed tissue.
