Ballet in two parts with choreography and libretto by Cranko, music by Scriabin and Fortner, and designs by Rose. Premiered 24 Mar. 1970 by the Stuttgart Ballet, with Fonteyn, Madsen, Stripling, Berg, Clauss, and Cragun. A famous diva is flattered by the attentions of a young man, a guest at her party. However, after looking back at her former romantic liaisons and deciding that her life has already been fulfilled, she rejects his advances. The ballet was inspired by Colette's novel La Naissance du jour and took its visual cue from the paintings of Gustav Klimt. It was revived for Fonteyn with the Royal Ballet in 1972. Petit used the same music for his L'estasi (Milan, 1968).
