a digital recording made available by a broadcaster for downloading on the Internet, is one of the more symbolic terms of the modern age of telecommunications. It is derived from the proprietary name iPod, a make of personal audio player now familiar to most people, in name if not in actuality. It has produced derivative forms podcaster and podcasting. It remains to be seen what other pod- words come from the same source.
