Polo handicap

Polo handicaps started as an estimate of how many goals a player would be expected to score in a six chukka match. Today they are more of a relative scale against which players are judged. They range from -2 (worst) through to 10 (best). Before a match the handicaps of all four players are added up and submitted to the club at which the game is to be played. If the total handicap of a team is more than the team against which they are playing, the difference is added to the scoreboard. For example, if 'The Mounties' polo team has a total handicap of 6 goals and 'Tayto' polo team has a handicap of 4 'Tayto' would start with a 2 goal advantage.
