Pontus und Sidonie
Pontus und Sidonie, a German translation of the French prose romance Pontus et la belle Sidoine. The translator was the Archduchess Eleonore von Österreich, who completed the work by 1456 Pontus und Sidonie tells of Pontus' battle against the heathen in Spain, and of his rescue and voyage to Britain, where he again fights against the heathen and delivers the land from them. He loves Sidonie and is rewarded with her hand. The story, first printed in 1483, achieved great popularity as a Volksbuch, and was reprinted at intervals up to 1769. It was republished, ed. K. Schneider, 1961.
