PopText

PopText is an mp3 blog hosted on blogger.com's Blogspot network and created and maintained by its London, England, based author Abigail McDonald. The blog's title and concept is based on the neologism "Poptext". This word was originally taken to relate to a cynical or irreverent review of a popular song but the definition on the blog itself now has it possibly referring to pop reviewing in general or even to mp3 blogging in general. Usage of the word has spread with various interpretations to other blogs and it has been referenced and used in articles in the press. Its uses are currently mostly within the blogging community and in discussions of this community, though the popular music webzine Pitchfork Media has used the term in a single review[1].

The blog began in November 2004 with weekly posting and links to mp3s and music videos. After a brief hiatus it returned in October 2005 with a new look and began daily posts with hosted mp3s. Its readership has rapidly increased, partly due to press coverage and its ties with the widely popular Fluxblog.
