This set dedicated to a sole traditional rhythm interpreted by a slew of different bands is rich in serendipity. There are wonderful solos of manifold quirky local types from trumpet, clarinet (lots), trombone, even baritone horn, but also in the enormous variety of the ensembles themselves, even though they all fall into the general range of regional hornband. This stuff isn't quite as barmy as the Mexican brass bandas, but it's even more -- as the ethnomusicologists say -- adorable. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, Rovi
