Port Bolivar is an unincorporated area located in the Bolivar Peninsula census-designated place, in Galveston County, Texas, United States state of Texas within Galveston County and part of the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area.
As of 2000[update], Port Bolivar had a population of 1,200.[1] The town is home to the historic Bolivar Lighthouse, which once guided ships entering Galveston Bay.
History
On April 23, 1991 the community, and other areas of Galveston County, received an enhanced 9-1-1 system which routes calls to proper dispatchers and allows dispatchers to automatically view the address of the caller.[2] After Hurricane Ike the United States Postal Service temporarily relocated Port Bolivar post office box services to Winnie, Texas.[3]
Transportation
Ferry service is provided by the Texas Department of Transportation between Port Bolivar and Galveston. The ferry re-opened after Hurricane Ike on November 11, 2008.[4]
Education
Port Bolivar residents are zoned to Galveston Independent School District schools.
Residents attend Crenshaw Elementary and Middle School for grades Kindergarten through 8. Residents attend Ball High School in Galveston. The current Crenshaw building opened in 2005.[5]
Galveston College also serves Bolivar Peninsula.

Parks and recreation
The Galveston County Department of Parks and Senior Services operates the Bolivar Community Center, 1802 Madison Avenue and the Fort Travis Seashore Park at 900 State Highway 87, and the Pilsner Boat Ramp.[6]
Postal service
The United States Postal Service operates the Port Bolivar Post Office at 2500 Broadway Avenue.[7]
