Portulacaria is a plant genus previously placed in the family Portulacaceae, but according to molecular studies is part of Didiereaceae.

  • Portulacaria pygmaea Pillans
  • Portulacaria oleracea (or Portulaca oleracea), also known as Common Purslane, Summer Purslane, Verdelagas, Pigweed, Little Hogweed or Pusley, is a succulent with silver dollar-sized, Jade Plant-shaped, dark green leaves. It is commonly sold in the southwestern United States as a salad green. Purslane is higher in vitamin E than any other vegetable and contains significant amounts of Vitamins A and C.[1] It normally uses C4 (or Hatch-Slack) carbon fixation but is also able to switch to CAM carbon fixation when drought stressed.[2][3]
