positive reinforcement

A technique used to encourage a desirable behavior. Also called positive feedback, in which the patient or subject receives encouraging and favorable communication from another person.

Reinforcement with pleasant properties which an athlete will pursue if at all possible. If such a reinforcement is to be effective, it must follow the response, preferably immediately. and increase the likelihood that the response will occur in the future under the same or similar conditions.
